Senator Kim Pate

For far too long, the vision of equal access to rights, protections and opportunities set out in Canada’s Charter has not been a reality for all in this country. The guaranteed livable basic income envisioned in Motion 46 would assist individuals who find themselves in need. It would provide the space to allow people options to plan a way out of poverty and crisis, whether through education, training, waged or volunteer work, caring for families, building networks of support or contributing to the community, in ways that enrich all of us. Motion 46 advocates a vital step toward eradicating longstanding inequality and discrimination, and toward more just, resilient and cohesive communities for all.
