One-Time Canada Housing Benefit

The one-time top-up to the Canada Housing Benefit is now available to help lower-income renters offset the cost of rent.

You may be eligible if:

  • You filed a 2021 tax return
  • You are at least 15 years of age on Dec 1, 2022
  • You have an adjusted family net income of $20,000 (individuals) or $35,000 (families)
  • In 2022 you:
    • were a resident of Canada for tax purposes
    • lived at a principal residence located in Canada
    • paid rent for your own principal residence
    • paid at least 30% of your 2021 adjusted family net income on rent
