Canada's Labour Code should protect workers, not undermine them.

I have been working with labour leaders, workers and constituents on improving working conditions in Canada, to ensure workers' have fair and safe working environments.
The Canadian Labour Code is key legislation that outlines the federal standards for working conditions in Canada. In the Canadian Labour Code, section 107 allows the federal Minister responsible for labour to "do such things as to the Minister seem likely to maintain or secure industrial peace and to promote conditions favourable to the settlement of industrial disputes or differences and to those ends the Minister may refer any question to the Board or direct the Board to do such things as the Minister deems necessary."
Canada Must Stop Attacking Workers' Right to Strike
Since June 2024, we have seen the federal government use section 107 eight times to interfere with bargaining or end strikes, spanning strikes from postal workers, flight attendants, port workers and railway workers. We see time and time again how the government caves to the complaints of big corporations, at the cost of workers' rights. Workers won the right to strike and the right to free collective bargaining over generations of struggle and sacrifice.
Every time the government breaks a strike, it sends a message to CEOs everywhere that they don’t need to negotiate in good faith with workers. And every time the prime minister lets workers’ rights violations slide in union workplaces, it tells bosses in non-unionized environments that they can get away with even more severe abuses. But as for the Liberals and Conservatives, they only ever stand by workers for photo ops, not on the picket lines. They’ll talk about protecting good union jobs, but will undermine what makes these jobs so good – the right to strike and collective bargaining to ensure safe working conditions and livable wages. Removing workers' right to strike is anti-democratic, anti-worker and harmful to our democracy.
This is why I introduced Bill C-247 in the House of Commons on October 6, 2025 to amend the Canada Labour Code to repeal section 107.
You can use your voice to show your support for this Bill by emailing your Member of Parliament, or by collecting signatures for a petition.
Together, we can stop government after government from violating the rights of workers whenever it is politically convenient. We need to restore the promise of collective action so workers struggling everywhere can embrace it themselves.
In solidarity,
