Winnipeg NDP MPs join call for federal help for looming mortgage and rent crisis

"People from across the country are calling for a rent, mortgage, and utility payment freeze," said MP for Winnipeg Centre, Leah Gazan. "I support their call to action. People must not be burdened by debt once social distancing measures are lifted by Health Canada"

The New Democrats also called on the federal government to mandate the banks to waive interest fees and charges on credit cards, bank loans, lines of credit and mortgages for at least the next two payments cycles.

“The government’s financial assistance package has been heavy on administration and slow to get money to Canadians who need help now,” said MP for Elmwood-Transcona, Daniel Blaikie. “Quickly putting a moratorium on rent, mortgage and utility payments would help immediately and take a lot of stress off of Canadians while they wait for the government’s financial assistance package to get off the ground.”

To join the NDP's call to Justin Trudeau to stop payments and waive fees before April 1st, you are invited to sign this petition.
