On August 10th, 2020, I introduced a Private Member’s Motion for a Guaranteed Livable Basic Income, M-46, for consideration by the 43rd Parliament.
As the Speech from the Throne approaches, MP Leah Gazan (Winnipeg Centre), is advocating for bold measures to expand Canada’s social safety net and address growing inequality and inequity.
On September 16th, 78 Academic researchers and teachers representing a range of disciplines from across Canada, wrote Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and Deputy Prime Minister Chrystia Freeland, urging their support for Motion 46 and the implementation of a permanent Guaranteed Livable Basic Income.Read the full letter here.

We represent a range of disciplines, including communication sciences, criminology, economics, geography, gender studies, health studies, kinesiology, law, medicine, music, occupational therapy, public health, nursing, nutrition, political studies, rehabilitation sciences, psychology, social work, sociology, and women’s’ studies.
